Outback & Backstreet Boys!
Lunch @ Outback

Last night, after meeting up with a Client @ Suntec, I was trying to contact A. for dinner, however, she didnt bring her hp out. So, it was lunch all alone.

I took a stroll from the lower section of Suntec and slowly walked all the way to Millenia Walk's Outback.

Oh I miss the times where Outbacks were half priced.

As I went in the area, I orderred a shrooms immediately. It's my favourite appertizer.

I spent a very long time contemplating on whether I should take the rib-eye or should I actually take the set lunch of Fish & Chips.

2/3 of the shrooms were emptied into my tummy and I'm already begining to feel full. However, I'm feeling a bit shy to just have an appertizer without anything else.

So Alright, the shrooms's $13.90 and the Fish & Chips were $12.90, but for lunch, if you take the meal, it's $12 for the shrooms. Haha, even the appertizer's more expensive than the set lunch.

So, there I was, enjoying my shrooms, orderred my set lunch with a swap of the coleslaw for the delicious grill veg instead. I simply love their grilled vege. The taste is fabulous, and I urge everyone to add on if possible.

When the set lunch came, I was slowly enjoying my food that it took me a damn long time to even complete 1/3 of the Fish & Chips. Hey! The fries taste damn good despite myself being full already. It's really one of those times where you wish you had the space in the tummy to just savour the whole meal.

But nevertheless, I still had a great time. I asked for celery and they gave me. They even gave me bluecheese when I asked for them. I've always been disgusted with Singapore's celeries, but the bluecheese reminded me of the food in US. Oh my oh my. They were excellent.

I ended up boxing up 1/4 of the shrooms and 2/3 of the set lunch. Signed the bill on my credit card and gave the waiter $5 cash as tips. One thing I didnt like was that the service charge's included in the bill. It's a triple plus, (+++)

Otherwise the waiter would have gotten more tips from me.

$12 + $12.90 + 10% + 5% + 1%
$5 tips = $35 for a lunch. Kinda expensive considering that I didnt have their fabulous steak.

Well, that's just the first treat of the day...
Bel called me up telling me that she could get tickets for Backstreet Boys at a really wonderful price. $100 for 2 tix which actually cost $95 per ticket.

So, I wasn't really prepared to pay for BSB, but some persuation from bel just got me to part with the $.

After work, I met up with Bel, thinking that we were at the right busstop and I checked with streetdirectory.com, bus 16 was supposed to take me from Raffles to the Indoor Stadium. Cool aight, till later, I found out that there's no bus 16 at the busstop, there's only 16M, where it's the midnight bus. Oh damn... at that point, I was feeling kinda sucky till the bus 608, orange little bus, left the door open despite no one getting on or off the bus, so.. I kinda rememberred that it shld pass by the stadium and YES! Indeed, upon asking the bus driver, bel & I hopped on.

During the ride, when I just managed to get comfortable sitting at the seats, I saw NO ONE offering their seats to this old lady. Well, since no one did so, why not me.
Hmm, the old lady showed her appreciation of my kindnees by repeatly thanking me. That made me feel so good.

Next Stop: Singapore Indoor Stadium.

We were greeted with like tons of young girls. Wow.. 30 girls to 1 guy. And I was in shirt and tie. How how how dressed could I get man. Haha.

Met Linda and her friend, who passed us the tickets, hmm, apprantly some guy won a pair of tix and decided to sell it off ebay. Linda bought it and we got it off her. Hmm, SUCKS MAN! I bought free tix.

Damn.. too bad Tang couldn't help me get tix for this show, Linda's got free tix as well too, so, we all belong to the $0 club haha.

Backstreet Boys Concert:
We were treated to different seats with Linda & friend, Bel & Myself.
the seats were kinda wrong and the numberings were also wrong, so... I just went to the front, grabbed a good seat and didnt bother bout anyone else. I could tell you that my view was def very good.

So everything was good, but the only diff is I had no cam with me, therefore you guys would have to bear with my below par pics and clips.

Nick Carter was a joke. He looked so damn fat man, I really wonder how did Paris Hilton and him got together.

The whole concert was also a joke, there were audio problems, there were dance moves problems, Nick shld have shed the fats before going on a tour, the stage was too small, cheapo setup. But CHEERS! to their songs. They were still memorising me with their stunning songs.

It was also one of the shortest concert I've been to. I just felt that other than Brian, no one actually sang with their heart, maybe a little for Nick.

They started at 8.45, ended at 10. Isnt that short? My phone even had too much memory to capture their clips.

Encore! Encore! Encore! yet only 1 more song.
On the overall, I'm dissapointed.

So.. Enjoy the pics and clips.

'Just let us in' Why queue 2 hours when club's half-empty? Ministry of Sound patrons fume at its entry policy

CLUBBERS to Ministry of Sound: We're sick and tired of queuing. Just let us in.

Since the British superclub's opening on 16 Dec, fun-seekers have had to queue to get into the club, waiting for up to two hours in lines that have stretched right to Coleman Bridge 250m away.

For what, they wonder. Once inside, they find that the club is only half full.

Ms Yolanda Zhuang, 20, queued for two hours on the opening night of Ministry of Sound (MOS) before being turned away due to capacity problems.

A member of the MOS staff came out, apologised and issued cards that gave patrons 50 per cent off on their next entry.

Miss Zhuang, like many other clubbers, was given an invitation card that allowed her in free after 9pm for the opening night.

Despite her displeasure, she returned to the club another two times after that day.

Both times, she was able to get in, but only after two hours of waiting.

She claimed that when she finally got into the club on both occasions, it was not full.

The club has a capacity of 3,160 people.

'I like the music at MOS, but I had to queue for two hours in a nice dress and the weather was quite warm. It just spoilt my mood to club. I did not feel like staying long after getting in,' said the civil servant.

Her experience echoes that of many other clubbers at MOS.

Advertising executive Lawrence Lee, 24, went to MOS twice after the opening night and managed to bypass the queue as he knew some of the staff members.

'After leaving the club at 2am, there were still long queues outside, but the club was not crowded inside as I could still get tables and seats,' said Mr Lee.

Clubbers who were interviewed claimed that the door policy they observed was such that five people would be allowed in, but only if five people came out, and that was even when the club did not look like it was at full capacity.

CLUB ACKNOWLEDGES PROBLEM

The massive queues have led many clubbers to complain to the management. An apology was sent via e-mail to clubbers on the MOS mailing list on 7 Jan. In it, the club promised that the problem would be rectified as soon as possible.

It led to the dismissal of the club's general manager, Mr Terry Lumb, a week ago.

The queues have got significantly shorter since then, according to clubbers.

But why the long queues in the first place?

Could the queues have added to the perception that it's a 'hot' club?

'Basically, if you are inside, you are exclusive. But if you are in the queue, you are just a normal guy,' said Mr Lee.

To be fair, industry players say that long queues can result from many reasons.

According to both Mr Simon Lim, managing director of the Wong San's Group, and Zouk's marketing manager Tracy Phillips, clubbers sometimes have to wait to get into their clubs because of stringent security checks or a maxed-out club capacity.

Queues are common in clubs overseas, according to some clubbers and industry people.

New Zealand expatriate Daniel Dominey, 33, has been to clubs in New Zealand, Australia and Singapore for 15 years and has worked in them as a security officer.

CREATE HYPE

He said his former employers have adopted that tactic to create hype about the place.

Mr Andrew Ing, chief operating officer at St James Power Station and former marketing manager of Zouk, has seen similar queues in three clubs in Miami and at Twilo in New York City.

'But long queues have died down somewhat. It now mainly applies to celebrity clubs that people like Paris Hilton go to.'

But he does not see it happening in Asia.

'It may have to do with the losing-face mentality,' he said.

Organisers who hold events in local clubs like Zouk might occasionally hold up the crowd before the event so that there is a rush when the doors open, according to Ms Phillips.

'It only happens sometimes before the event, though,' she said.

However, using queues as a marketing ploy just does not make sense to clubber Kevin Sim.

Said the 20-year-old: 'Since a club makes money from people buying drinks, doesn't it make more financial sense to let them in, rather than wait outside?'

MOS was contacted for this report, but declined comment.

'Dismissal too harsh'

MR Clement Lee, executive director of Lifebrandz, which owns the local franchise for Minsitry of Sound (MOS), said in a recent report that the queue problem was the reason for general manager Terry Lumb's dismissal.

However, industry players and clubbers feel that the move, if true, might have been a little too harsh.

'Yes, an international brand with more than 15 years' experience in clubbing should have no excuse for a queue problem in the first place, but to dismiss a person just because of that is an overkill,' said clubber Kevin Sim.

Even industry players like Wong San's Simon Lim feel that the dismissal was overly harsh.

OTHER REASONS LIKELY

There must be other reasons for his dismissal, said St James' Andrew Ing.

In the case of Zouk, the front office manager, not the general manager, is responsible for the queues to the three entrances to the club. If he was guilty for causing serious queues, it would result in an informal investigation, but not a dismissal from the club.

Only in the case of serious and prolonged problems would a dismissal be considered, said Ms Tracy Phillips, Zouk's marketing manager.

She added: 'Ultimately, it is the prerogative of MOS's management how they want to run the club and whether they deem queue problems as a fair reason for dismissal.'
