Don't shut off your computer at night, just Hibernate |
Many employees do not turn off their computer before leaving office so as to save time that it takes to reboot the workstation when they return the next working day. Home users are however more careful about their electricity power bill and generally shut down the computer when they don't intend to use it for a long time.
The truth is, if you use the "hibernate" feature of Windows XP, you save almost as much energy as you do turning off your computer for the night (minus unplugging it). And you won't have to endure a lengthy "re-booting" process the next morning; your computer should "wake up" in 30 seconds or less.
Lab tests done by Dell show that a PC running Microsoft Office uses 42.7 watts. If it runs continuously at that rate for 365 days, at 7 cents per kilowatt-hour, the power consumption costs would be $26.18 for the PC and $45.99 for a regular monitor, for a total of $72.17 for the workstation.
Flat-panel monitors use less energy than regular monitors. So the same workstation with Microsoft Office running for a year would use $39.67 in power with a flat panel.
Computer Monitors do use zero energy when turned off. But the CPU uses zero energy only if it is unplugged. Otherwise, even a "Turned Off" PC utilizes "flea power," or about 2.3 watts, to maintain local-area network connectivity, among other things. In "hibernate" mode, your PC uses the same 2.3 watts; in "sleep" mode, your PC uses about 3.1 watts.
Therefore at work, atleast turn off monitors even if you plan to leave the machines running continuously overnight just to save power.
People in developing countries face a different kind of problem. Since power failures are common, they have to sometimes turn off their computers in the middle of work as there are no proper electricity backup systems like UPS. They have to reboot the PC in short intervals and are often worried that this may damage the computer.
Turning off the power mains directly without properly shutting down the computer can sometimes be damaging especially to the software and data files. I faced a similar issue sometime back when I pulled the computer plug accidently and lost all the Google Desktop Sidebar settings (including TODO lists) though the Firefox windows were restored because of the Sessions Saver plugin. A sudden power outage can also harm the hardware of a computer.
Does frequent rebooting hurt a computer ? Earlier, PC hard disks did not automatically park their heads when shut off, and that frequent on/off cycling could damage the hard disks. Today's PCs are designed to handle 40,000 on/off cycles before a failure, and that's a number you likely won't reach during the computer's five-to-seven-year life span.
Frequent rebooting (Turn Off and On with software) does not really harm the computer provided you do it through the right process. Sometimes, when a computer gets slow, a simple reboot can also help in regaining the original speed. |

This is not the perfect time to buy an Apple iPod » Digital Inspiration: Technology News, Software Downloads, Reviews, Productivity Tips
If you plan to buy an Apple iPod in coming days, try to defer your purchase for some more time. Here are some possible reasons:
Reason 1: Apple has suddenly decided to change their iPod chips supplier - though it may not affect any of the design or functions of iPod, it may be better to wait and watch who the next supplier is ?
Reason 2: New Higher Capacity iPod Nano models are coming.
Reason 3: There are Apple Video iPod models in sight yet but the launch of iPod Mobile Phones Apple iPhone is "logical and inevitable"
Reason 4: Declining costs of iPod primary components like LCD screens and flash memory could bring down the overall cost of manufacturing. Apple therefore expects the average selling price of iPod to decline in the current quarter.
Reason 5: Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is saying that Apple will be launching new 8GB and 10GB iPod Nano models this summer. |

Princess Poofie's blog |
I've just read poofie's blog.. she was celebrating her bro's 24th bday.
Come to think about it, I didnt have a gift from my sis last year.. and 2 years before that as well.
I'm not trying to say she owes me, but it's just that I would hope for just this little thing my closest people do.
I love my sis and I'm prepared to take on the world if anyone goes against her. But sometimes I feel that she loves me 50% only.
Her guy friends gets all the goodies in the world regardless if it's bday or it's just any normal day, but all I get is.. err..
let me try to recall what I've received from her.
-Keyboard & a mouse which I seriously hated. (come on, u're getting PC stuff which I've got like a whole warehouse of it at home)
-about 8-9 years back, I've got a SHAQ biography book. But in the first place, I dun read books at ALL.
-couple about the same 8-9 years ago, My bday present was... a swatch watch which somehow couldnt fit me and my mom & sis changed it for 2 different watch and they kept one each, leaving me with err... none.
-3 years back, I've got a SE T630 which was one of the best gift ever. The gift that made me smiled :D
I think that bdays should be celebrated with families and every year, my bday party has my sis in it.
But I've only attended her bday party once. :( that was at a chalet/bungalow and all my other family members were there.
Each year, I tried to celebrate my sis's bday, but every year, she neglects me.
The very thing I'm sad about is that she's never ever called me "didi" or "brother" but she calls me by my name. However, she gets agitated if I were to call her name instead.
I've been trying hard to impress my sis, but never once did she appreciate my efforts.
Unless it's about the PC hardwares or IT shit, then she'll have to salute me to that. In fact, she used to be scolding me all the time, fearing that I'll screw up her PC in the past, till I had my very OWN PC.
Haha, from then onwards, she'll always beg me for help. Well, in fact, that's the only time she really treats me nice.
No matter what, I still love my sis.
I love mongmong as well, she's like this very nice sister to me, a friend whom I've NEVER expect anything from her.
This kinda love is called agape aka unconditional love.
but one thing is also because she shows me respect even thou I'm constantly making a fool out of myself, big boaster, arrogant bastard at many times, but she's always there for me.
I love her.
I love my sis, mom & granny too.
I miss my Gong Gong badly... *sob*sob* |

GMail Drive |
GMail Drive shell extension
GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google Gmail account, allowing you to use Gmail as a storage medium.
GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google Gmail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your Gmail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag'n'drop files to.
Ever since Google started to offer users a Gmail
e-mail account, which includes storage space of 2000 megabytes, you have had plenty of storage space but not a lot to fill it up with. With GMail Drive you can easily copy files to your Gmail account and retrieve them again.
When you create a new file using GMail Drive, it generates an e-mail and posts it to your account. The e-mail appears in your normal Inbox folder, and the file is attached as an e-mail attachment. GMail Drive periodically checks your mail account (using the Gmail search function) to see if new files have arrived and to rebuild the directory structures. But basically GMail Drive acts as any other hard-drive installed on your computer.
You can copy files to and from the GMail Drive folder simply by using drag'n'drop like you're used to with the normal Explorer folders.
Because the Gmail files will clutter up your Inbox folder, you may wish to create a filter in Gmail to automatically move the files (prefixed with the GMAILFS letters in the subject) to your archived mail folder.
Please note that GMail Drive is still an experimental tool. There's still a number of limitations of the file-system (such as total filename size must be less than 65 characters). Since the tool hooks up with the free Gmail Service provided by Google, changes in the Gmail system may break the tool's ability to function. I cannot guarantee that files stored in this manner will be accessible in the future.
17 Sep 2005 update: Google restructured the Gmail login procedures again and previous versions of the tool fail to log in. The new version also adds the ability to double-click to launch files and FileOpen dialog support.
Please be aware that support for this tool may suspend at any time if Google decides to block its use.
|
4 Dec 2005 update: Several improvements: Security warning on unsafe files, better XP-look / drag-images, new graphics by Jay Hilwig, better error reporting, Win64 bit support, fewer refreshes.
|
18 Apr 2006 update: A change in the Gmail.com login may cause a "Disc is full" error. Get the latest version to access files again.
|
Installation Requirements Internet Explorer 5 or better
Installation Guide
- Extract the ZIP file to a temporary folder.
- Run the Setup application.

Ms Rachel Lee, who has been going to the Jiak Kim Street nightspot regularly for two years, says that compared to other big clubs, Zouk always has a good vibe.
Said the 28-year-old bank officer: 'Of course there are also practical things like the security, which always seems to keep a handle on things, and ample parking.'
Haha.. My sis on the new paper. Doesnt really mean anything right.. now here's my interviewed words..
Advertising executive Lawrence Lee has been going to Zouk four to five times a month for six years, and he's still hoping to be a member. Said Mr Lee, 24: 'Six years is a long time for me. I go to Zouk like any regular clubber and buy a fair amount of drinks.'
Hopefully I'll be able to get my membership.. |

The Electric New Paper: Zouk's secret to staying popular after 15 years Under promise Over deliver THIS weekend, one of Singapore's top clubs celebrates its 15th anniversary. By Gregory Leow 15 April 2006
THIS weekend, one of Singapore's top clubs celebrates its 15th anniversary.
And for Zouk regulars, there is nothing they would change about their favourite club.
'The club has been keeping the right balance of mainstream and niche music right all these years. You never go there and feel that you are listening to stuff which sounds old,' said Mr Manoj Sitaram, 28, an engineer who has frequented Zouk for 10 years.
Mr Sitaram also likes the fact that the interior decor changes every week.
'The other week, they put in little touches like hanging square mirrors from the ceiling and making lasers reflect off them,' he said.
GOOD VIBE
Likewise, Ms Rachel Lee, who has been going to the Jiak Kim Street nightspot regularly for two years, says that compared to other big clubs, Zouk always has a good vibe.
Said the 28-year-old bank officer: 'Of course there are also practical things like the security, which always seems to keep a handle on things, and ample parking.'
The club's secret for success?
'We're a firm beliver of underpromising and overdelivering and being a private entity,' said its marketing manager Tracy Phillips.
And for the next 15 years, it'll be business as usual, even when the upcoming no-smoking in clubs rule takes effect in 2007.
There are also no plans for expansion.
Said Ms Phillips: 'We just spent $7 million on our last renovation, so there are no plans to expand the size of the club.'
Still, as the club passes its 15th year of business, regulars offered suggestions for improvement.
MORE TOILET CUBICLES
Ms Lydia Ng, 29, an account executive, said little things like increasing the number of toilet cubicles and installing more fans in the outdoor wine bar area could go a long way.
'There should also be a limit to the number of people allowed into the Wine Bar as it gets too crowded sometimes.'
Another issue: The long wait list for a coveted membership.
Till 1999, customers could apply but the demand was too high. Now, membership is strictly by invitation.
Advertising executive Lawrence Lee has been going to Zouk four to five times a month for six years, and he's still hoping to be a member. Said Mr Lee, 24: 'Six years is a long time for me. I go to Zouk like any regular clubber and buy a fair amount of drinks.'
Despite these problems, long queues are a regular fixture at the club. It has also attracted the attention of foreign DJs.
Zouk came in at No 11 in a Top 50 listing in this month's issue of DJ Mag, one of the world's highest-rated publications on dance music.
The listing was compiled from a poll of 600 international DJs.
In the top 3 are London's Fabric, The End and Turnmills. |

TIESTO @ MoS 14-04-06 |
He was fucked up.
Totally lousy and he wasn't even enjoying himself when he spun.
MOS IS EQUALLY as fucked up.
way too squeezy.. many ppl were seen fighting. Bottles, glass, jugs were flying in the air at a point of time.
Ppl in the 2nd floor were dropping ashes to the 1st floor, effectively making my head a fucking asstray.
damn.. I'm so dissapointed with MOS.
When I reached the place, I expected a queue. YES I didnt mind a queue. BUT what irritated me the most was when the piority queue was LONG and yet the stupid "door sale queue" was with like 3 person.
THAT IS LAME. ok, took me just 10 min to enter, BUT STILL, I'm not happy.
Poor security in the venue. Ppl were seen balancing on the handle bars at the mini stage beside the DJ console, High up in the air, accidents may be fatal with the main chinese guy in white looking high on drugs.
Many a times I almost got into a fight. people were pushing me OFF THE STAIRS.
Either that, they were pushing my friends.
DARN..
Ok, so we all know MoS is CRAPPY. What could Tiesto have done?
He wasnt even 1% of what he did in KL, dun even talk about trance energy 2000.
He played traffic for A MIN???
Love Comes again
Tracks from ISOS 5-
Karen Overton - Your Loving Arms
BUT I loved it a lot when he played Fonzerelli - Moonlight Party
I was trying very hard to ID the track till I heard.. "dancing in the moonlight"
:D
he was there at about 1am??
till 4?
damn dissapointing man..
and AH BENGS WERE SEEN IN THE CLUB GOING YO AH YO!
my god!!!
Oh ya, someone said out loud to the group that TIESTO has arrived and is spinning, which in fact the DJ that was spinning at that point of time was Damien Saint.
He told me that he could RECOGNISE Tiesto.
LOL
I had to reassure him that I could recognise both DJs' faces
$38 just to see him was a ripped off.
TO SUMMARIZE.
THE WHOLE NIGHT WAS SHITTY
Quotes from Techie
Yo ah yo indeed. Told you Tiesto is an ah beng household name. Found that out at Music Underground during a friend's shitty birthday party. The DJ played Traffic, Adagio, Love Comes Again and Flight 643. And the beng crowd just chant Yo ah yo to them.
Quotes from Roger
many ppl were seen fighting. Bottles, glass, jugs were flying in the air at a point of time.
Ppl in the 2nd floor were dropping ashes to the 1st floor, effectively making my head a fucking asstray.
These is so ridiculous in a club. Girls won't feel comfortable going. A friend of mine did say the MoS crowd is not as sophisticated as Zouk. IMO, it is okay if they shout "Yo ah yo", but fighting like gangsters?.
Oh ya, someone said out loud to the group that TIESTO has arrived and is spinning, which in fact the DJ that was spinning at that point of time was Damien Saint.
He told me that he could RECOGNISE Tiesto. This reminds me of a funny thread in TranceAddict Toronto section. To quote:
---------------------------- some rando : "holy F**k dude, Paul Van Dyk is SO awesome, I fucking love him, he's by far the best DJ I've ever seen"
me: "yeah that's Mark Scaiffe, PVD doesn't come on for another 4 hours"
random: "as if, I'm not sticking around that long, I'm outta here" -----------------------------
Quote from cdjben
Eh.. this I totally agree, me and my fiance were shocked!!! We saw pple praying the RESDIENT DJ like GOD... and 1 Sh*t head keep shouting TIESTO in my ears!! Asking me if I'm as high as he is... &*&^#*&$^%
For a moment, I thought I was drunk.. then I give up.. I double check with TR guru "Felix".. and he assured me that Tiesto has not gone for a plastic surgery.. OMG.. lol...
Oh yea.. 1 more thing my fiance wanted me to put here is that, the sound system was "CRYSTAL CLEAR Question Exclamation Exclamation Question Exclamation "... almost can hear every single element and note.. d*mn it.. who installed the sound systems... I think they should consult THX instead... lol.....
As for the night... to sum it up.. I DID NOT FIND THE SUNRISE..... but I still love tht guy... Laughing Laughing Laughing |

50 Things Girls should Know about Guys |
Princess Poofie: 50 Things Girls should Know about Guys
Alright! This taken from poofie's site.
the big 50 things about guys..
Well here's what really relates to me..& of coz, I think it's really true about myself.
All those in bold relates a lot more to me.
3. Guys may be flirting around all day but before they go to sleep, they always think about the girl they truly care about.
4. Before they call, guys try to plan out a little about what they're gonna say so there aren't awkward pauses, but once he's on the phone he forgets it all and makes it up as he goes.
5. Guys go crazy over a girl's smile.
7. Guys hate it when you talk about your ex-boyfriend or ex love-interest. Unless they're goin for the let-her-complain-to-you-and-th... method.
8. A guy who likes you wants to be the only guy you talk to.
11. Guys get jealous easily.
12. Guys are more emotional than they'd like people to think.
14. Guys are good flatterers when courting but they usually stammer when they talk to a girl they really like.
21. A usual act that proves that the guy likes you is when he teases you.
24. Guys use words like hot or cute to describe girls. We rarely use beautiful. If a guy uses that, he likes you.
35. When a guy says he is going crazy about the girl, he really is. Guys rarely say that.
43. A guy has more problems than you can see with your naked eyes.
47. Guys hate rejection, but they hate being led on even more.
50 Things Girls should Know about Guys
ok, another random posts i found this really cute and true thing......about guys...
1. Guys hate sluts.
2. "Hey, are you busy?" or "Are you doing something?" - two phrases guys open with to stop from stammering on the phone.
6. Guys will do anything just to get you to notice him.
7. Guys hate it when you talk about your ex-boyfriend or ex love-interest. Unless they're goin for the let-her-complain-to-you-and-th... method.
8. A guy who likes you wants to be the only guy you talk to.
9. Boyfriends need to be reassured often that they're still loved.
10. Don't talk about your guy friends to your boyfriend.
11. Guys get jealous easily.
12. Guys are more emotional than they'd like people to think.
13. Giving a guy a hanging message like "You know what?!..uh...never mind.." would make him jump to a conclusion that is far from what you are thinking. And he'll assume he did something wrong and he'll obsess about it trying to figure it out.
14. Guys are good flatterers when courting but they usually stammer when they talk to a girl they really like.
15. Guys hate asking parents for money to buy girls presents. So they come up with ideas like saving their lunch money for a week. But it never works because guys are always hungry so they end up asking the parents for money anyway.
16. Girls are guys' weaknesses.
17. Guys are very open about themselves.
18. It's good to test a guy first before you trust him. But don't let him wait too long.
19. Your best friend, whom your boyfriend seeks help from about his problems with you may end up being admired by your boyfriend.
20. If a guy tells you about his problems, he just needs someone to listen to him. You don't need to give advice.
21. A usual act that proves that the guy likes you is when he teases you.
22. Guys love you more than you love them if they are serious in your relationships.
23. Guys will brag about anything.
24. Guys use words like hot or cute to describe girls. We rarely use beautiful. If a guy uses that, he likes you.
25. Guys think WAY too much. One small thing a girl does, even if she doesn't notice it can make the guy think about it for hours, trying to figure out what it meant.
26. Guys seek for advice from girls not other guys. Because most guys think alike, so if 1 guy's confused, then we're all confused.
27. Any guy could write out a rulebook or advice book for flirting, but no guy can write out a book about relationships.
28. Try to be as straightforward as possible.
29. A guy has to experience rejection, because if he's too-good-never-been-busted, never been in love and hurt, he won't be mature and grown up.
30. If the guy does something stupid in front of the girl, he will think about it for the next couple days or until the next time he spends time with the girl.
31. personality is key.
32. Guys learn from experience not from the romance books that girls read and take as their basis of experience.
33. Guys worry about the thin line between being compassionate and being whipped.
34. If a guy looks unusually calm and laid back, he's probably faking it and is spazzing inside.
35. When a guy says he is going crazy about the girl, he really is. Guys rarely say that.
36. When a guy asks you to leave him alone, he's just actually saying, "Please come and listen to me."
37. Guys don't really have final decisions.
38. If a guy starts to talk seriously, listen to him. It doesn't happen that often, so when it does, you know something's up.
39. If your best guy friend seems to avoid you or is never around when you're with your boyfriend, he's probably jealous and likes you.
40. When a guy looks at you for longer than a second, he's definitely thinking something.
41. Guys like femininity not feebleness.
42. Guys don't like girls who punch harder than they do.
43. A guy has more problems than you can see with your naked eyes.
44. Don't be a snob. Guys can be intimidated and give up easily.
45. Everything in moderation. Put on makeup, wear perfume. Just not too much.
46. Guys talk about girls more than girls talk about guys.
47. Guys hate rejection, but they hate being led on even more.
48. Guys really think that girls are strange and have unpredictable decisions and are MAD confusing but somehow are drawn even more to them.
49. A guy would give his left nut to be able to read a girl's mind for a day.
50. No guy can handle all his problems by his own. He's just too stubborn to admit it.

What is True Love? |
What Is True Love??????
True Love is your soul's recognition of it's counterpoint in another.
I've always asked myself, how would I define true love, and every time I'd go, hey, I'll have to write a book thicker than the encyclopedia.
And for this very once, there is a sentence which I truly have to admit, a sentence that says it all. |

Boot Camp Tutorial: Install Windows XP on Mac in 5 steps » Digital Inspiration: Software Reviews, Technology News, Downloads, Productivity Tips: "Apple Boot Camp lets you install Windows XP on a Macintosh Computer using the original Microsoft Windows XP installation CD with the product key. After installation, you can start up you Macintosh using either Windows XP or Mac OS X.
Here are the steps required to install Windows XP on a Mac:
Step 1: Download Mac OS X v10.4.6 (or later) and latest firmware update from Apple Download website.
Step 2: Run the Boot Camp Assistant to create a Macintosh Drivers CD or DVD.
Step 3: Create a new hard-disk partition [minimum size, 5GB] to make room for Windows XP. All the software and data on the original Mac partition stays intact.
Step 4: Insert your Windows XP CD and start the XP installation. Select Partition C: and format the partition using either NTFS or FAT file formats. Though NTFS is more secure than FAT, you won't be able to write or save files to the Windows volume from Mac OS X.
Step 5. Once XP install process is complete, Boot Camp will restart your system in Windows XP automatically. Now is the turn to install Mac Drivers from the Macintosh Drivers CD that you created in Step 2. Restart.
This is an optional step. You can change the Startup Disk preferences page to choose which OS to boot by default. The default OS can also been changed from Windows Control Panel - Performance and Maintenance - Startup Disk.Change the Operating system and Restart.
At startup, hold down the option key (alt) to choose between Mac OS X and Windows. |

Install Windows on Mac PC. |
Boot Camp Public Beta. Macs do Windows, too.
More and more people are buying and loving Macs. To make this choice simply irresistible, Apple will include technology in the next major release of Mac OS X, Leopard, that lets you install and run the Windows XP operating system on your Mac. Called Boot Camp (for now), you can download a public beta today. As elegant as it gets
Boot Camp lets you install Windows XP without moving your Mac data, though you will need to bring your own copy to the table, as Apple Computer does not sell or support Microsoft Windows.(1) Boot Camp will burn a CD of all the required drivers for Windows so you don't have to scrounge around the Internet looking for them. System Manager
Optional alt. At startup, hold down the option key (alt) to choose between Mac OS X and Windows. Run XP natively
Once you’ve completed Boot Camp, simply hold down the option key at startup to choose between Mac OS X and Windows. (That’s the “alt” key for you longtime Windows users.) After starting up, your Mac runs Windows completely natively. Simply restart to come back to Mac. What you’ll need
* Mac OS X Tiger v10.4.6 (check Software Update) * The latest Firmware update (check Support Downloads) * 10GB free hard disk space * An Intel-based Mac * A blank recordable CD * A printer for the instructions (You’ll want to print them before installing Windows, really.) * A bona fide installation disc for Microsoft Windows XP, Service Pack 2, Home or Professional (No multi-disc, upgrade or Media Center versions.)
The Boot Camp course
Boot Camp Public Beta provides a straightforward means of letting your Mac run Windows. Here’s how it works: Intuitive partitioning.
Space maker. Meet the most elegant hard drive utility ever.
* First, you need to make sure your Intel-based Mac has the latest version of Mac OS X and the latest firmware update. These provide technologies that make Boot Camp possible. It’s also wise to print out the Installation & Setup Guide. * The Boot Camp burns a CD with the drivers Windows needs to recognize Mac-specific hardware. It is very important to do this before starting the Windows installation. * The software also helps you set aside hard drive space for the Windows installation, without moving any of your Mac files around. Just drag the intuitive slider to choose the size that’s right for you. Boot Camp also helps you remove the Windows partition, should you so desire. * Next, insert your Windows installation disc, restart and follow the Windows installation process. The only tricky part is selecting the C: drive manually. Be sure to get this right, or you could erase your Mac files accidentally. Remember, Apple Computer does not sell or support Microsoft Windows. * After the installation process is complete and your Mac has booted Windows, you’ll need the Macintosh Drivers CD you burned previously. When you insert the CD, it will automatically install the drivers. Follow the instructions in the Installation & Setup Guide for helpful hints. * Don’t forget to follow best practices for updating and protecting your Windows system (see “Word to the wise” to right).
1. You’ll need Windows XP Home Edition or Professional, Service Pack 2 installation disc. |
